TCK - Third Culture Kids

TCK - Third Culture Kids

I first learned of this term thanks to Teo Ober (EBV - class of 85). Teo only lives about 45 minutes from my home here in FT. Lauderdale, so we see each other often. One day he mentioned TCK, naturally I did not know what the he was talking about. BUT once he explained to me what it means, from then on alot of things about myself and the way I think made sence. I'm talking about feelings and the way I see the world; it's always been different than the rest of the people around me. Specially the feeling of never feeling at home anywhere.

My mother's from Colombia, my father's from Louisiana, I grew up in Venezuela and got my elementary and high school education at an American school in Venezuela (EBV-Escuela Bella Vista). My graduating class of 17 had 9 different nationalities !! and I speak fluently 2 languages. Not everyone has this back ground, So TCK put a few things in perspective for me.

So if your feeling out of place ... I hope this helps you. I mentioned TCK to Antonio Escobar (EBV - class of 83) and he said "What's that?" He too had never heard of TCK. Once I explained the term to him and he analysed the concept and did a little research, he told me that it put a few things into perspective regarding his life too.

Stories Coming Soon !

Hi my friends !

Sorry I have not written, been very busy, but I will be posting a story soon. Probably a story that my father told me or one of mine. We'll see ....

I also want to mention that if anyone of you lives around the Miami/Ft. Lauderdale area I would love to get together. I want to meet up with people and interview them ... basically record their stories so that I can later post. Like I said I want to collect and gather as many stories as possible from as many people as I can ... for history. We must not let these memories die.
I also have a couple of friends (my fathers) that will be sending stories soon and I am due to meet up with a friend to gather his stories. I promise these will be good !

I will be leaving this area soon heading back to Lafayette, Louisiana. So anyone of you in the area ... this would be a good time.

Thanks. James

The Idea

Hi everyone ! Just want to make a point. Send me your stories no matter how short or long. I want all kind of stories ... detailed, good, bad, funny, sad stories ... whatever you can remember.

Stories that your mom & dad told you about those days. I want them. If you have photos ... scan them and send them. I will post them. My idea and goal is to round up at least 100 to 500 stories so that one day I can publish a book with these tales. For history sake.

I used to sit with my dad (Chester Migues from New Iberia, Louisana) and he would tell me story after story ... he always wanted to write them down and publish a book ... I always encourged him to do so ... he wanted to ... but he left us before he had a chance. So I want to do this for him and keep the memories alive for everyone to enjoy.

So help me and lets get these stories in ... James
